Book Lovers

Book Rating: 4 out of 5 boozy stars

Oh. My. Goodness.

After seeing Emily Henry's books EVERYWHERE, I finally hopped on the Emily Henry bandwagon and picked up Book Lovers. Let me tell you, I am not dissapointed. Emily Henry's writing style and character development is just *mwah* *chef's kiss*. She truly lives up to all of the hype. After reading Book Lovers I went and bought the rest of her novels. It was that good.

Book Lovers follows Nora Stephens, a cutthroat literary agent who is a shark in the book world. Thanks to her beloved little sister, Libby, Nora has agreed to leave New York City for the summer to go on a month-long girl's trip to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina. Sunshine Falls is a small-town, one that workaholic Nora knows she does not fit into. To make matters worse, she keeps bumping into her work rival from the city, a brooding but handsome editor named Charlie Lastra.

Henry is a wizard at capturing emotions and putting them onto the page. The characters in this book just felt so real. I would not be surprised if I went to North Carolina and stumbled across a picturesque, idyllic Sunshine Falls with all of it's punny named stores and one Charlie Lastra editing in the book store. The romance between Nora and Charlie unfolded slowly, but it was a realistic and perfect speed. I love a good slow burn romance, and this book was probably the best slow burn romance I have every read.

My favorite character in the book was Charlie. He was such a good leading male. Henry knows how to make you fall in love right alongside the main character. Charlie and Nora truly seemed like two halves of one whole. They fit together so perfectly, and I love how their backstorys rounded them off and gave them such depth. Honorable mention to Libby, who was a fun addition to the story. Her and Nora's sister-relationship/friendship reminded me of my own sisters and made me nostalgic for our childhoods when we lived in the same household.

I guarantee that you will fall in love with the characters, the setting, the story, and everything about this book. Even after finishing the book I find myself thinking about the characters on occasion, which is the tell tale sign of a truly well-written novel.

I wanted to pair this book with a fireball cocktail solely because of the wonderful slow burn romance that builds between Nora and Charlie.  While looking for the perfect drink to pair with this book, I saw this recipe and new instantly that I had found it. How fitting is it that the booze to go with the book features the subtle burn of fireball and is a southern inspired sweet tea? Enjoy.
